The Chase.
Four squirrels cling across the
fence, like poorly placed works of
art.
Noughts and crosses play out
as the sun drifts over a tree
shadowed lawn.
The little dog waits
statue still, paw upraised
ready for that joyous
thrust of speed, any minute
now….

Sue; I’ve just been doing a first read through today’s usual good works but had to come back here at once. I can only doff my feathered cap and bow low to the sublime simplicity in your work; it consistently delights me.
Blessings…..Dodge
Gosh, Thank you so much Dodge, that’s a lovely comment and greatly appreciated. He watches their every move while I watch his, do not want any squirrel casualties. :- sue.
You are most welcome Sue. I think what impressed me was the compression of language to create a very visual imagery. I could see it all, immediately and at once.
I tried to make it as minimal and tense as possible by focusing on just the relevant details, the precarious squirrels, the lawn (running distance) and the dog with one paw ready to go.
I’m so pleased it came across so well and you could see what I saw. 🙂
Delightful!

Thank you, much appreciated 🙂 sue.
