A tower in silence

revised for me new book

High above Mumbai
on Malabar Hill
stands a mist caressed
silent tower

A shrine of mystery
where carrion birds flock to feast
on reverently readied
cadavers of indigent beggars
and former dignitaries
waiting ravening beak and claw,
to soar high with eagles
or become flesh of vultures’ flesh.

A tower of awful silence
stands over London W10

A cemetery of disregarded souls;
the world in miniature.

The poor and poorer
children, fathers, aged mothers
council tenants, undocumented others
collaterals of a theology where
avarice is the key and profit the deity.

The twisted charred remains
of those awaiting salvation
waving despairing sheets
at cyanide smoke windows
before fire flash-brazed them
carbonised flesh of flesh
inseparable from scorched rags
Poundshop plastic kitchenware
cheap carpets, cheese-plants,
beds, bookcases, bibles,
and BrightHouse flat screen televisions

now await sniffing spaniel noses
to be located, enumerated, toe-tagged
removed in zipped-up body bags.

Taken down to earth.

Laid in earth.

To turn into earth.

Good stuff – though I would put some line breaks in to ease the read a tad.

Much better and great stuff but would still put in a line break in front of “The twisted charred remains” as the two parts are distinct imho. The last six lines totally blow me away!

Worth every penny! I publish using LightningSource rather than going to a printer. I still have boxes under my bed full of the first trilogy. Print on demand is the way to go – people order from you, you tell them to print and post from 1 book to a 1000. Easy peasy. Costs about £90 to set the block and cover up on their templates and that’s it.

Check it out.

PS the ‘tower of awful silence’ also prompted me to do a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXr9bAJLb-0
