I believe in you

I did not write this, well I did but it was two of the characters in one of my failed to finish novels that ‘wrote’ it. It is definitely ‘country’ but as I don’t write music only hum it very badly I’ll leave it to the reader to make up their own tune.

“Was it something that I said
That I cannot now recall.
Words are hanging in my head
And’ I just leave ‘em when they fall.

“It was something that I heard
Made me turn around and leave
Without another single word
That I could not quite believe.”

“If only I could say the things I mean
And make you believe they’re true
I wish that I could make you believe in me
The way that I believe in you.”

“Is there something I could say
That would make you change your mind.
Would the words “I love you” make you stay
Leaving all the past behind.”

“Don’t think you meant to be untrue”
“I’d never break your heart that way.”
“Against this world it’s me and you
And that’s the way it’s going to stay.

“If only I could say the things I mean
And make you believe they’re true
I wish that I could make you believe in me
The way that I believe in you.”
