Faith in tribulation

      Tempest-Tossed

Inside those half-dreaming lids
where man attempts
to find some kinship
and wakes,
eyes wide…

There lies a common thread
 that binds us all together
enduring,
eternal.

Though trials and circumstance
afflict us sorely,
The Captain is still in command.

I lie, a storm-cursed sailor
tired of dreams…
But waiting
in the guts of me
to see dry land.

Si like this Alison, short, succinct, message clear. Not keen on use of word ‘guts’ though, perhaps ‘depths’ instead, unless you prefer it to be more hard-hitting. Great stuff though, as always.

Okay Alison, I do get it, just thought that ‘depths’ fitted in with the sea image too.

PS – sorry about typo in first comment, these iPads have a mind of their own.

“I lie a storm cursed sailor, tired of dreams” Me too Alison, another gem from you. Our lives are storm tossed, and I know how much it bothers you.

very good. strong close to a strong poem.

Great stuff but the guts as val sez was a bit visceral and fels out of context – but Navy is as Navy does as they heave their guts to windward…. was the Captain tied up, perchance? Mitch
