Thank you. This was considered a haiku, then changed as a senryu. Later, I decided to keep it as a three-liner because I wanted the name as an identification of the poem, so readers know that I’m talking about a specific region. I feel happy that it wasn’t overlooked I cannot lie… but most of the time I’m least bothered as to who looks, who pecks and who overlooks. Came across this little beauty and immediately brought to mind Ella Fitzgerald singing of “Strange Black Fruit.” Great yet painfully sad image and too often a reality in India.
Yes, “Strange Fruit” is a reminder of the fact that human beings are not different, albeit the degree of good, bad, and ugly may vary. We need a lot of work to do; we cannot do it thinking of us as different human beings because of our colours, languages, geographies. The US’s shame cannot be China’s pride, we need to get rid of the win-lose model that is ruining the eco-system of the world, it’s a global headache which is much worse than the pandemic we are facing now.
