Night Demons

Dragged into the basement
Where the night demons roam
In the darkest of darkness
That you’ve ever known

No one can hear you
As you silently scream
And the demons reach into
Your every last dream

Too late now to stop it
Because you’ve been selected
To live with the black dogs
Who roam undetected

And when the daybreak appears
And you no longer care
The demons retreat back
Into their darkened lair

And your day starts again
But you’ve so little fight
‘Cos you know before long
Day will turn into night

And again they will call you
Pretending they’re kind
But what they really desire
Is to torture your mind

Please fight all you can
Shed those tears if you must
Find a stubborn resistance
That is stronger than lust

Tell the people who care
That your smile isn’t real
It’s only a mask
For how you really feel

Believe me, I know that it’s hard
To ask friends for a hand
But if you unload your worries
They just may understand

That when you say that you’re fine
Often inside, you’re so weak
For the demons are near
They change your words as you speak

And this vast vicious circle
On which the demons depend
Protects them and prevents you
From finding an end

That although it would free you
From all of mankind
You know would destroy
Those you love left behind

I really enjoyed the first five versus they completely held my attention, but forgive me for saying this but I felt the rest of the poem didn’t quite reach the standard of those first verses. I like the sentiment and advice held within it however.

I completely agree. The first five or six verses are very good, but after that it loses its bite.

Fantastic work one I can really relate to well done and flows nicely I enjoyed it greatly
