Candle

There is a candle in your empty room
Waxing and waning
Shedding light that nobody sees
Its flame flickering with a heated passion
And changing its shape as it ages
Like a distorted truth
Illumination for this darkness
Offering light to lead the way.
Because outside the glass jar, life goes on
But on the inside, life just flickers
Until it is unceremoniously snuffed out
