Deep in the wood
I think this speaks for itself
Deep in the wood
“Whoo, whoo?”
“Tis me, badger.”
“Twit, twit, you scared the living daylights out of me.”
“Didn’t mean to make you scowl, or ruffle your feathers oh wise owl”
“Don’t you know I have a little sleep, down here in the woods so deep.”
“I do, I do, but you’re not easy to see, stuck up there in that old tree.”
“I’ll let you off this time, but don’t get so clever trying to speak in rhyme.”
“But owl you’ve just done the same thing, wouldn’t it be better if you learnt to sing?”
“Badger, there you go again, you’re just doing it on purpose and that’s quite plain.”
“Sorry owl, just a slip of the tongue, but I’ve been doing it ever since I was young.”
“Now you’re giving me a pain in the butt, didn’t your parents tell you to keep your mouth shut?”
“I suppose they did oh wise owl, but I never learnt to grunt or to howl.”
“Well, I can’t sit here it’s starting to get dark, so I’m off hunting down in the park.”
“I’ll say goodnight to you then, no doubt we will meet now and again.”
“Only if you beware of those dogs and men, I see they are out hunting again.”
So with a flap of his wings owl was soon gone, badger went to ground, for he was the last one.
For they came to dig up his set, with dogs and guns and a big net.
Each of his family had been taken away; they came through the night and at the break of day.
Why do men kill what they cannot eat, the purpose of this has just got me beat.
They’ll keep on killing and just what for? For one day there will be no more.
I wonder if my words will do any good, for all of those who go deep in the wood.
This happens all to often and so needlessly It breaks my heart. When will people learn that all life is treasured by those living it. Sue.
Sue thanks for the comment, I couldn’t agree with you more.
Life of all things goes in a circle and if you break that circle it changes everything.
But man being the dominant animal wins most times, but never really understands…Tony
“Why do men kill what they cannot eat” – now that’s quite a question, isn’t it? I like this very much. You use a deceptively simple way of getting across a very serious message. Very nicely done.
Gee thanks for the comment and compliment.
This type of thing goes on all over the world with many kinds of animals. When will we ever learn….Tony
