We’ve had rain today, Sue, and looking out the window, I thought the smaller wet hanging trees and looked like old fringed standard lamps, you know the type that stand on the floor. This poem is lovely, I like ‘heavy with tears woven from the night’ for it does form a sort of patchwork of hazy textures on the eye, loses clarity. Tennyson used to write little one-sentence poems on the corners of dinner napkins to his wife, which she could just about read from the light of the wood fire.
