Estate
.
Gathering-points,
like standing stones
of no hope,
young faces,
blank
and medieval-daft,
strong hands,
dangling
like pecked convicts,
bright eyes,
grown dim
like flickering tallow,
proud heads,
bowed
beneath baron’s mace,
feral minds,
lying waste
like idling fallow.

A stark portrayal of a grim and depressing environment.
Yes, and in the UK too. Thanks, Luigi.
A true situation well portrayed..Peter
Thank you, Peter.
I saw signs like this in north Africa a few years ago. Too many unemployed, listless young men hanging around street corners. Ripe for the rabid fundamentalists that subsequently preyed on them. Stark poem got me thinking.
We have them in the UK.
Such a waste of youth, no expectations and all dreams thrown aside. So sad, you have captured the cold reality so well. Sue.
