A foggy autumnal day
The botanical name Nigella damascena
is for a plant known as love-in-a-mist
but for me it is reminiscent of my first,
and never forgotten, amorous tryst.
Associated with that attractive flower
Devil in the bush is another epithet.
This specific, alternative, designation
may mean that temptation is a threat.
Hot blood coursed through our veins
and the urge was tangible and strong.
We never gave it a second thought,
didn’t think that true love was wrong.
As desire swept over us like a flame,
we osculated, had a lingering snog,
and, at the dawn of an autumnal day,
we succumbed; made love in the fog.
