Paid In Full.
Dusk rides in on the heels
of dawn, charcoal etches
dampened boughs,
November’s drapes so early
drawn, pull sullen tears
from roaming mist.
Lost the golden coins
of autumn paid in full
to winters chest.

This is a perfect ‘word picture’ of how fast time seems to move, especially when leaving Autumn for the darker season of Winter. It could also describe time passing as we grow older. I liked the evocative language which did not seem strained but flowed nicely.
A very good read, for me. Thank you.
Chrissy.
Hi Chrissy, thank you so much, and you are absolutely right it could be about either the season change or growing older although I hadn’t thought of that when I wrote it 🙂 sue.
brilliant start “dusk rides on the heel of dawn” leads to an interesting metaphor, winter is charging autumn…
So sorry, I have only just found your comment, thank you so much for reading and commenting. It was one of those November days that never really wake up and stay dark and blurry eyed all day. Even the bright leaves had turned to black. Sue 🙂
