THIS LIFE

Betty’s a contortionist, and is always in demand
And you know she won’t do anything, unless it’s been pre planned
Ernie’s a control freak, although he’ll argue that he’s not
He likes to dance in discotheques and thinks he’s really hot

Barbara, is just beautiful because she has an honest soul
For me she would do anything because I am her goal
She works and works 12 hours each day, to ensure that we get by
And though this leaves her very stressed, she has no time to cry.

And while all these lives are pushing on, I just sit and drink
I watch the world go by so fast, I don’t have time to think
I just accept that that’s the way it is, and on and on I go
I’m way beyond redemption and karma is too slow

William was a magician, until one day he disappeared
He lost all of his money, but how it happened was not clear
Some say that he gambled it and others say he drank
But I prefer to think that it is safe and sound within a bank.

Maggie likes to pull the strings,  it makes her feel so good
Her husband goes along with it, although not many would
He rarely ever answers back or looks her in the eyes
But when he does he’s very quick to then apologise

And while these lives are moving on, I just sit and drink
I watch the world go by so fast I don’t have time to think
I just accept that that’s the way it is, and on and on I go
I’m way beyond redemption and karma is too slow

Scotty an ex pilot, loves to talk about the war
Even though it ended so many years before
On good days, he’s great company, on bad days he’s a bore
He says “this country’s gone to shit and no one cares no more”

Marlene is a district nurse of whom many are quite wary
She claims that she can see the dead and her voice can get real scary
People say her mind has gone and that’s what makes her wild
But all I see is a little girl who once lost her only child.

And while these lives are moving on, I just sit and drink
I watch the world go by so fast, I don’t have time to think
I just accept that that’s the way it is, and on and on I go
I’m way beyond redemption and karma is too slow.

Martine is a head waitress, in a really swanky place
She never tells a single soul that she feels out of place
She smiles at all her customers who think she’s really cute
Not one of them would ever guess, that if she had a gun she’d shoot.

And last not least there’s little Frank, an unassuming guy
He hardly speaks our language but he always likes to try
He’s lots of friends to count on and his friendships always last
But none would want to know him, if they knew about his past

And while these lives are moving on, I just sit and drink
I watch the world go by so fast, I don’t have time to think
I just accept that that’s the way it is, and on and on I go
I’m way beyond redemption and karma is too slow

Yes I’m way beyond redemption and life’s karma is too slow

An easy rolling rhythm to this that would probably fit nicely into a four chord framework. Slight reservations about the third verse cadence though (William…).
