Wish I Were A Poet
This is a revised version of a poem written in
about 2004 when I was a new member of UKA.
I guess I’ve learned a little since then, but still I
often struggle.
Main text of your writing.
Wish I Were A Poet
Wish I could see what others see,
…and hear what others hear,
…….their ‘thinkings’ transcendental.
….…..For while they eulogize with glee,
….……..it seems that I have nought to cheer,
….……….not even elemental.
If you were close, just over here,
…instead of being far away,
…….I’d whisper, wouldn’t need to shout.
….……And I’d beseech “Please make it clear,
….………what is it you are trying to say;
….…………what is it all about?”
I closely look at all the words,
…and prise asunder line from line,
……to see what’s written in between.
….…..Is there something that’s inferred,
….……..or clarity that’s only thine,
….………..or aptness veiled that I can glean?
There must be others just like me,
…who do not always comprehend,
……yet try to find a meaning.
….…..And sometimes ‘lost’ they feel at sea,
….……..but stumble blindly to the end,
….………..In hope of portents gleaning.
So let me come in from the cold,
…to learn the secrets you’ll bestow.
……and be at one with those who know it.
….…..Be generous with your gifts untold,
….……..so those like me might one day know,
….………..The joy of being called ’a poet’,
Oh dear, I may be guilty as charged at times. The problem is what’ seems perfectly clear to me as I write, obviously isn’t to others. Still in like a bit of “metaphor ” HaHaHa! Love your words and style on this one Michael.

Hi Mike
This was first written about twelve years ago when I knew nothing (spoken in a mock Spanish accent) Now of course I am old and wise and I know everything. (I wish)
One thing I have become aware of over the years is that perseverance sometime pays off, and when the penny drops and the mist clears (well you said you liked a bit metaphor) there is an increased degree of satisfaction.
As to your plea of guilty; I recommend a suspended sentence.
Michael
PS. Best wishes Mike in your current battle.Give it some ‘welly’.
