I don’t know a sonnet from an open drain….but I loved and understand this. Welcome to my world.

It’s quite simple, Mike. A poem of 14 lines, usually in iambic pentameter (deDUM-deDUM-deDUM-deDUM-deDUM) and with a certain rhyme scheme, for example the Shakespearean sonnet (which rhymes ABAB CDCD EFEF GG).

You should write one some day…

I am the same I am afraid. I just write as inclined to but you are right. This poem could have been written for you. I stand in solidarity and empathy. In fact, I dedicate this poem to you!

As someone who has smoked, drinks and has tried various things over the years I’m in a position to know that nothing I’ve ever tried has improved my performance. If anything it made it much, much worse! Nice poem.

Good friends, please forgive this communal reply to all who commented on my deliberately controversial poem. My intention was that all performance enhancing substances should be prescribed with medical approval – as indeed they mostly are. Thank you all..David

As Gothicman said, the feel of a sonnet for sure. Well written, well constructed, well rhymed, a very fine poem…Leila x

Thanks very much Leila. As I said to Trevor, i never set out to write in any style. I called one poem a ballad (The Dream +Ballad of a Highland Lass) https://ukauthors.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=36404
but that was due to several people telling me it was! haha. 😉
Thanks as ever for dropping in.

The greatest hypocrisy I see is that of pointing the finger at everybody else but at one’s own nation. Who can say with certainty that their athletes are ‘clean’? Many from various countries have ‘missed’ three drug tests and got away on a technicality. Others are undetected for long periods, Lance Armstrong being one such case.

I’ll never forget the Tory party slogan in 1997 which at the time seemed pathetic, but which turned about to be prophetic.

    “New Labour, New Danger”.

And the red eyes. Do you remember them?

I do, Archie. Saatchi & Saatchi, wasn’t it? The advertising was very controversial, I recall, and didn’t do the Tories much good.

After 11 years of Thatcher and 7 years of the suit full of nothing that was John Major, I think the British people would have voted for a hatstand with a red rosette on it, or even Neil Kinnock.

So no, it didn’t do them any good at all…

And now I wish we’d had a hatstand instead.

I can appreciate the sentiments, Mitch, but not being a musical man I cannot make a sensible comment about the quality of the song. Is there an audio of the vocals and instruments? It would help one to assess the interpretation.

Thanks, Luigi – I was hoping to mix the track and add the audio but alas it will have to wait a week or so as my mixer went down. But it does make sense as a music track – I could not resist the comparison with janis Joplin and the town of Joplin in the USA which was wiped off the map by an F5. Thanks for persevering with me.
