    From griffonner on something beautiful

I awarded you fresh, dripping in dew, cherries the first time I read this, Rick. What makes it so memorable I think is the stark contrast between the protagonist’s purpose and means, and his/her recognition of… shall I call it ‘spiritual’… beauty. Whatever, a brilliant piece of work.

Thanks, Griff – as you know I’m never happy with my work – this has been drastically edited, glad it still holds its flavour 🙂

This is such an evocative and beautifully written poem, Alison. Oh, the rapture, the rapture, the rapture! Deserving of the nib, I feel.

Aww many thanks Allen. So nice to know a poem was appreciated.

Well, now we are all on lockdown with seemingly with no end in sight, I could not care less if Planet X was hurtling through space towards us lol At least it would be quick!
Merry Christmas to you and yours

From griffonner on Homage To Shane MacGowan

    Brave and beautiful indeed.

People are washed and shaped from birth by the particular strain of contaminated flood water in which they were born to swim. This leads us to have some basically inexplicable feelings about some of our fellow swimmers – especially those born in another stream. There is always something that doesn’t ‘fit’. Feeling that, rather than accepting that, Is that the ‘pain of existence’ [attrib: Stormwolf] that causes the ‘self-destruction’ we talk about?

Someday, I hope, we will realise that we are all co-creators and all deserve to be recognised as such, whether we be cleaners, cooks, engineers, houseperson, painters, writers, bottle washers… all are unique, talented and fundamentally different in some way. I think that his indulgence in substance abuse is just a visible form of self-destruction, there are many forms that go unseen.

Yes griff, I agree, Shane was moulded in his young years, they had no electricity, he said they would just “piss out of the door” and “shit” in the fields. He was given two pints of Guinness a day from eight and drank his first bottle of whiskey aged eleven. Talking about having no chance? But also you have to consider that’s what moulded him, and maybe without that upbringing the magic wouldn’t have appeared? I always say everyone has a story to tell! and all you have to do is sit there and listen long enough and eventually the diamond reveals itself. Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m new here my first two posts so Its nice that someone took the time to notice them.

From Bhi on I am not bound by these walls

This is a wonderful poem. Our minds are free to wander where we please and to create the wonders that constantly birth inside of us.

Only question was about the use of ” tormented” to describe your wonderland; surely that should be the one place where the torments of our lives can be left at the door?

    pure gold.

the pub scene reminded me of the time I was driving through Kilkenny and its environs late at night and came upon this pub, which just appeared like a ghost in the road ahead, and was privileged to share in the best company and singing that a soul could wish for. And at the end of it was able to top up on essentials at the same time!

Another charged account! Intrigued on the proposed “hunt” and its outcome.

Only niggle was the structure of this sentence which read a bit awkwardly – I slumped down alongside my cycle opposite the direction the bullets were coming from to make a smaller target..

Beating the carpets as a way of showing their affection for their wives! another great slice from your journey.

You have rekindled a desire to visit Russia, always wanted to go to St Petersburg.

it’s difficult to add a comment on a poem whose at least three key-meanings were used for poems you also wrote, it’s all a poetic dialogue really, which is destined to remain largely unexpressed.

I can only say I liked how you wrote it. Cheers!

Nothing new, you mean. Well, I must confess to be preoccupied by something in the physical at the moment, and maybe it is making me fixate on notions.

when I wrote my poems talking about the opal aspect the presence etc I didn’t think I was writing something new and I am not writing for such reasons, I am always certain others have similar ideas but each has his own way of saying it, originality which most of us have stems from our Voice, our Style. The ideas are already there, we just have to find them and create. Thanks

From Bhi on I wash my hands of all responsibility

    TR,

This is the last in the “IS” series. I forgot to post one – The Dai Lama’s Dilemma – which comes after the Buddha’s reply, and I will post that to complete the sequence.

I enjoyed the play on “Annan”! Please repost that, or send in a PM.

The slaughter over here is about to begin. On the table I have laphroiag and spiced gin from a local brewery – Silent Pool – which is just up the road from me. They do a great tasting tour, of which I have partaken, and the subject of a forthcoming poem.
