Hello! this post will attempt to show you some of the ways you can dress-up your submission. Poets, they're a funny lot aren't they? They like to present their words just so. So with that in mind, I've tried to add a few things to the editor to make it easy for them to jiggle and poke their text into a form they are happy to submit. For instance. This bit of text is standard format. You can see that each carriage return (enter) creates a double space (paragraphed) Which is fine for fiction? Trouble is, a poem is a group of short lines, each requiring a carriage return to the next line. Which creates a poem that looks double spaced. Poets are not amused! Poets like to present their words in a single-spaced format like this! So I've added a single space icon to the editor which does just that? All ...

Here I will explain the annotation feature we offer on UKA. Hypothes.is is (do I need that extra 'is'?): an open platform for discussion on the web. It leverages annotation to enable sentence-level critique or note-taking on top of news, blogs, scientific articles, books, terms of service, ballot initiatives, legislation and more. Hypothes.is is a 3rd party application which we have 'plugged in' to UKA so that users of the site can highlight and annotate the text of member's submissions in real time. UKA is a writers' website committed to helping members improve their writing. The best form of improvement is to receive feedback on what you produce from peers and your audience. We want UKA to be your online editor or agent; reading what you write and telling you what's bad as well as what's good. Most online writing communities offer the facility to comment on a piece of writing ...

Since Atlanta, she had looked out the dining-car window with a delight almost physical. Over her breakfast coffee, she watched the last of Georgia’s hills recede and the red earth appear, and with it tin-roofed houses set in the middle of swept yards, and in the yards the inevitable verbena grew, surrounded by whitewashed tires. She grinned when she saw her first TV antenna atop an unpainted Negro house; as they multiplied, her joy rose. Jean Louise Finch always made this journey by air, but she decided to go by train from New York to Maycomb Junction on her fifth annual trip home. For one thing, she had the life scared out of her the last time she was on a plane: the pilot elected to fly through a tornado. For another thing, flying home meant her father rising at three in the morning, driving a hundred miles to meet her ...

In this post, I want to explain why we've decided on such a drastic and radical overhaul of UKAuthors.com. UKAuthors (UKA) is an old girl! She was born in 2001 which makes her 105 in dog years. By WWW standards, this is good going. Not many websites enjoy such longevity. But longevity equates with age and age, as we all know, dulls health. Things start to creak, seize-up, droop and sometimes fall off altogether! UKA has been suffering this way for a few years now. We've tried to repair and patch up as things degrade but like using a few rolls of anaglypta to paper over the colosseum, it simply disguises the relic that lurks beneath. Also, the advent of smartphones and tables, web 3.0 and AJAX means that UKA, as it is, doesn't fit in, nor indeed, work with these technologies. UKA has not moved with the times. But ...
