There was a leaflet on the very basics which came with the loom and I bought a couple of books from Amazon and devoured them! :) I have to say I have become very quickly addicted to this craft and my hope is that I will become good enough to be able to sell what I make, which means that I will be able to justify buying really classy yarns - cashmere and silk and so on. I may pop in here from time to time with pics of items and I will definitely take a pic of the loom (it's in Raasay at the moment) and post it, but here for starters is a sampler I made to try out different techniques:

(I also wove the rainbow scarf and the purple-y one in the background.)

Shame. Come on folks! Post stuff! Holiday snaps, even if you don't think they're particularly arty. Sketches. Paintings. Doodles. Old stuff, new stuff. More the merrier. If nothing else, visual stuff often spurs poems and stories. I certainly look to the visual for inspiration for writing.

Right, lecture over. Here's a random selection of some of the artwork I produced last week in and around Whitby/Sandsend/Robin Hood's Bay. I emailed her half an hour ago and sent it along as an attachment, and she's sent me ever such a sweet thank you email. I'm delighted.

For those outside the UK (or even inside, but who haven't been following the Mary Beard saga) she's an eminent Professor of Classics at Cambridge University and elsewhere who recently presented a TV programme on the Romans. It got decent ratings and was highly entertaining, quirky, informative, and altogether a great bit of television. Then a certain well-known TV critic in a top UK newspaper wrote that Mary Beard was too ugly to be a TV presenter (this is the same TV critic who had previously called Clare Balding, who is an expert sports presenter, a 'dyke on a bike'). He obviously likes his female TV presenters to be brain-dead bimbos. Some of us however, prefer presenters, regardless of gender or orientation, to be intelligent and engaging people who know their subject.
