Poets Are Jolly Good Sports

I was once told that there’s no money in poetry and so the vast majority of poets just do it for the love of it. Those true and wise words inspired me to write this.

Poets need to be fit

so they jog their memories,

run through ideas,

swim against the tide.

They keep their brains in shape

senses in tip top condition,

training their minds.

Poets can punch above their weight

overcome hurdles along the way,

keep going to the end.

Wrestle with emotions

give their blood on the page,

the pen is mightier than the sword.

But are they in it for gold medals,

or a silver or a bronze ?

Nah, just a positive comment will do !
