The Wraith
Wraith.
A ghost or ghostlike image of someone, especially one seen shortly before or after their death.
Oh, come to the window
my darling!
Look out in the frosty dark night.
I’m waiting beside
that old oak tree.
Bathed in this soft lunar light.
Leave all your possessions
behind you.
Just make your way
straight to the door.
You won’t be requiring
those burdens,
those ‘things of this world’,
anymore.
I’m leaving tonight
very shortly.
My time here
has come to a close.
I’ve now come for you
as I promised.
You won’t have need
of your clothes.
I could not go on ‘there’
without you.
The years have eroded the past.
Say farewell
to those things all around you.
together, forever,
At last!
You can almost hear the howl of the ban-sidhe (banshee) – very atmospheric. Mitch
Thanks Mitch. 🙂

Ooh those last four lines sound ominous especially the ‘At last,’ very spooky, or perhaps I have picked up the wrong vibe here and the whole poem was meant as lovingly as in the first verses? I really enjoyed the strong atmospheric images, Cathy and Heathcliffe came to mind. Very, very nice 🙂 Sue. X
No, it’s about a wraith so intended to be spooky! 😉

This is very touching, Alison (as well as a bit spooky) It spoke to me of 2 lovers separated by death, finally to be reunited. A haunting tale

A lovely poem and my first WABD audio listen too, you read it so, so well. I’ve heard a few people tell stories of seeing people shortly after they’ve died and always wondered if they are stricken with grief and imagining it or if there is more to it than than. Who knows for sure?
Hi Jay,
It’s actually quite common…in the first few weeks. Glad you enjoyed the audio. 😉
